Building the Foundation of Great Gymnastics
Tumbling classes at the Y teach kids the foundational skills they need to master some of gymnastics’ most exciting moves — cartwheels, one-hand cartwheels, round offs, handstand forward rolls and more. Designed for children ages 3–12, our tumbling program is held at Fox West YMCA and taught by certified instructors in a safe, encouraging environment. Every child is challenged at their own level and progresses through skills with a step-by-step approach that builds confidence alongside ability. Whether your child is brand new to gymnastics or looking to sharpen their skills, tumbling is a great place to start.

What Your Child Will Learn
Tumbling gives children a strong physical foundation and introduces them to the core skills used across all gymnastics disciplines. Every class uses a step-by-step approach that ensures kids are challenged appropriately and progressing safely.
Core Skills Covered in Tumbling
Tumbling classes cover a range of foundational gymnastics skills including cartwheels, one-hand cartwheels, round offs, handstand forward rolls and more. Instruction is done with a step-by-step approach so every child is challenged in a safe, positive environment. Children build not just gymnastics ability, but also balance, coordination, flexibility, strength and confidence that carries into other activities and sports.
Why Tumbling at the Y?
Tumbling builds more than just gymnastics skills — it develops the whole child. Here is what every participant gains from our program.
Physical Development
Tumbling develops balance, coordination, flexibility and strength — physical skills that benefit children in gymnastics, other sports and everyday life.
Safe Progression
Every child is evaluated and grouped with others at the same ability level. Our step-by-step instruction ensures each skill is learned safely before moving on to the next.
Confidence Building
Mastering a new skill — whether it is a cartwheel or a handstand forward roll — gives children a real sense of accomplishment and the confidence to keep pushing forward.
A Foundation for More
The skills learned in tumbling provide a strong foundation for recreational gymnastics, competitive gymnastics and other movement-based activities at the Y and beyond.
Ready to Explore More Gymnastics?
Tumbling is a great entry point into the world of gymnastics at the Y — and there is plenty more to explore. Our recreational gymnastics classes for ages 18 months through 17 years build on the same foundational skills in a fun, progressive environment at the Heart of the Valley YMCA. For athletes with competitive ambitions, our competitive gymnastics team offers pre-team programs and competitive levels year-round.
