Skills That Save Lives
Safety training programs make protecting and saving lives possible. At the Y, we offer a unique classroom setting that encourages open discussion and builds real, practical skills — helping young people grow in their desire and ability to be a positive force in the community. Whether your child is learning to stay safe at home or preparing to care for others, these classes give them the confidence and knowledge to handle what life brings. Classes are offered at multiple YMCA of the Fox Cities locations throughout the Fox Cities area.

Our Safety Classes
We currently offer two safety classes designed for youth ages 9 and up. Both are taught in a supportive, interactive environment by trained Y staff.
Safe Kids 101
Designed for ages 9–13, Safe Kids 101 equips children with the skills they need to stay safe at home and in the community. Through this hands-on course, participants learn how to recognize and respond to emergency scenarios with confidence. Parents can rest easy knowing their child is prepared — not just informed. Offered at: Apple Creek YMCA, Appleton YMCA, and Fox West YMCA.
Babysitting 101
For ages 10–16, Babysitting 101 prepares young people with everything they need to become a trusted, sought-after babysitter. Topics include how to engage children of all ages, first aid basics, handling emergencies, and the character and responsibility that make a great babysitter. Participants leave with a plan to find babysitting jobs and care for kids with equal parts skill and fun. Offered at: Apple Creek YMCA, Appleton YMCA, and Fox West YMCA.
What Your Child Will Gain
These aren’t just classes — they’re experiences that shape how young people think, act, and show up for others. Here’s what participants take home.
Real-World Skills
Participants learn practical, hands-on skills — from first aid to emergency response — that serve them for the rest of their lives.
Confidence to Act
Knowing what to do in an urgent situation builds the kind of confidence that carries into every area of a young person’s life.
Emergency Readiness
Whether it’s a home emergency or a babysitting challenge, participants leave prepared to respond quickly and calmly.
Responsibility
Our classes build the character it takes to be someone others can count on — a quality that matters far beyond the classroom.
